Evenings with the music of Karol Szymanowski and Bohuslav Martinů in Katowice

Festival „Evenings with the music of Karol Szymanowski and Bohuslav Martinů“ begins on March 14 in Katowice. During three days of the festival, audience will have an opportunity to hear Szymanowski´s and Martinů´s music performed by Czech and Polish musicians including the pianist Ivo Kahánek or The Sedlacek Quartet, winner of Karol Szymanowski International String Quartet Competition Katowice 2014 and The Bohuslav Martinu Foundation Competition 2014.

Evenings with the music of Karol Szymanowski and… - Festival whose guiding principle is to juxtapose works of Szymanowski with those of other prominent composers of the 20th century, and to reveal in the process the broad spectrum of trends and mutual inspirations at work during the 20th century. This format of programming creates the opportunity for comparing compositional techniques in the treatment of similar genres as well as to familiarize the audiences with works rarely performed in public.

Bohuslav Martinů is only the second Czech composer introduced at the Evenings with the music of Karol Szymanowski, perhaps thanks to his recent 125th birth anniversary. The first one was Leoš Janášek in the very first year of the festival´s existence in 1998.
