Dr. Viktor Kalabis (born 1923, died 2006)
Dr. Viktor Kalabis was an important Czech composer and musicologist. He was born in Cerveny Kostelec. He studied at the Prague Conservatory with Emil Hlobil (1945-48) and at the Academy of Performing Arts with Jaroslav Ridky (1948-52). He also studied musicology at the Philosophical Faculty of Charles University in Prague.
Between 1953 and 1972, Dr. Kalabis worked as a writer and music director at Czechoslovak Radio in Prague. Since 1972 he has exclusively dedicated himself to composing. His compositions are widely respected and performed both within the Czech Republic as well as abroad. For instance, his composition Sinfonia pacis is one of the world's most-played Czech contemporary music compositions.
His wife - the well-known harpsichord player - Zuzana Ruzickova became in 2006 the president of the Board of the Viktor Kalabis and Zuzana Ruzickova Foundation. (contact: firstname.lastname@example.org).
