Mahan Esfahani released new CD with Martinůs harpsichord concerto
The world known harpsichordist Mahan Esfahani releases new CD with harpsichord concertos of Bohuslav Martinů, Hans Krása and Viktor Kalabis under the Hyperion Records label on 3rd of February 2023. The Concerto for Harpsichord and Small Orchestra, H 246 from 1935 was recorded by the Prague-based artist with Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Alexander Liebreich.→ More
20th anniversary of the death of Dr. Ulrich Uchtenhagen
This year marks 20 years since the sudden tragic death of Dr. Ulrich Uchtenhagen (*1926), who died on 31 January 2003 in a car accident in Zimbabwe. This lawyer and great lover of classical music was not only the director of the Swiss Copyright Organisation (SUISA) from 1961-1989, but also the personal advisor to two prominent European composers whose fates met in Switzerland, namely Paul Hindemith and Bohuslav Martinů.→ More
Romance for violin and piano in world premiere with Frank Peter Zimmermann
Romance for Violin and Piano, dating from 1930, was found by the musicologist Natálie Krátká in the National Library of Israel in Jerusalem. The world premiere will take place on 10th January in Wigmore Hall in London. The star performers are violinist Frank Peter Zimmermann and pianost Martin Helmchen. The piece was already performed by Petr Nouzovský and Martin Kasík in transcription for cello and piano on the benefit concert of B. Martinů Institute in Prague in November.→ More

New double issue of Martinů Revue about the critical edition
New double issue (2-3 2022) of the magazine Martinů Revue is dedicated to the biggest project of Martinů scholarship and Czech musicology in general: the Bohuslav Martinů Complete Edition. The issue includes interviews with Jonáš Hájek, the chief editor of the project at Bärenreiter Prague publishing house, and the pianist Ivo Kahánek, who participated on the preparation of the fourth piano concerto. Professor Giselher Schubert presents the problems of thirteenth volume that will include three versions of the first cello concerto.→ More
The Bohuslav Martinů Foundation Competition has announced its winners. The laureates are violinist Kristian Mráček and Trio Gaudium.
The Bohuslav Martinů Foundation Competition, as part of the Days of Bohuslav Martinů Festival, took place for the twenty-seventh time this year. Young performers competed for victory in two categories: violin and chamber ensembles with piano. The first prize was awarded to violinist Kristian Mráček and Trio Gaudium. The laureates' concert was held in the Bohuslav Martinů Hall at the Liechtenstein Palace on Sunday, November 28th.→ More

Polish violoncellist Bartosz Koziak recorded the Concerto for cello and orchestra No. 2, H 304 and Sonata for cello and piano No. 2, H 286. He performed as a soloist with the Janáček Philharmonic Ostrava under the baton of Petr Popelka. Pianist Radoslaw Kurek cooperated on the chamber piece.→ More

New issue of Martinů Revue about newly found correspondence and photos
First issue of Martinů Revue in 2022 documents the relationship between Bohuslav Martinů and the diplomat Vladimír Vaněk. Their newly available correspondence and photos of the composer from Vaněk’s archive shed a new light and the late Italian period of Martinů’s life. The eminent Czech diplomat and the composer met as young men already in Paris where they even shared an apartment. They met again and the end of their lives in Rome. Around fifty newly discovered photos of the working composer were shot there. The new issue of the magazine reflects their relationship in an article by Martin Ledvinka. It contains a text from the Vaněk himself, “I went to Vieux-Moulin for a penknife”, in which he remembers meeting with Charlotte after the composer’s death.→ More
Martinů pieces performed at a unique concert celebrating the Czech Presidency of the Council of the EU
Musicians from the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague and the Belgian Luca School of Arts performed together a unique concert celebrating the Czech Presidency of the Council of the EU on 3rd July 2022. The concert was held simultaneously in the Martinů Hall in Prague and Kamermuziekzaal in Leuven. They were interconnected by the unique technology of the CESNET association, which transmits sound and high-definition video with minimal delay.→ More
