What were the reasons for Martinů's resounding success during his lifetime and, conversely, what caused his legacy to subsequently fall into oblivion? What role did the political situation of a bipolarly divided world play in this? To what extent did the advent of the avant-garde in the second half of the 20th century, represented by names such as Pierre Boulez and Karlheinz Stockhausen, contribute to this? What makes Martinů attractive to listeners today, and what appeals to them most in his music? What influence did the fall of the Iron Curtain have on the renaissance of his work, as well as the activities of the Bohuslav Martinů Foundation and Institute?

These are some of the questions that will be addressed in the lecture, and we will try to find answers to them in dialogue with the audience.
