My life with Bohuslav Martinů

Feature documentary about Bohuslav Martinů produced by Czech TV and Austrian ORF TV from 2021. Aleš Březina and Andrej Šuba will introduce the film screening.

The film is based on the memoirs of composer's wife Charlotte, who met him in Paris in 1926. The second narrator of the story is Miloš Šafránek, a friend and biographer of Bohuslav Martinů.

According to director Jakub Sommer, this visually impressive docudrama is "the story of great talent supported by immense diligence, thanks to which Martinů composed so much beautiful and inspiring music. It is also a message that even if you are born into an ordinary family in a small town, you can one day conquer the whole world." The film combines dramatized scenes with a documentary approach and explores not only the music of the great composer, but also his personal life, opinions, feelings, and attitudes.
