Join Mannes Orchestra for a program that bridges legacy and contemporary innovation. The concert features Tyler Sexson, recipient of the prestigious Martinu Prize, whose dynamic orchestral work reflects the enduring influence of Bohuslav Martinů, a former Mannes faculty member. The evening opens with Longmire, a work inspired by the misty, atmospheric forests surrounding Mount Rainier.
The programme continues with Bohuslav Martinů’s emotional Memorial to Lidice, a powerful orchestral elegy from 1943 dedicated to the victims of the Lidice massacre. The concert concludes with Stravinsky’s Petrushka in its 1947 revised version, preserving the ballet’s vibrant colours, rhythmic vitality, and expressive immediacy in a more compact orchestral form.
