Czech Philharmonic is not afraid of Martinů

Czech Philharmonic’s program for the next season 2017/2018 is out and we can find the name of composer Bohuslav Martinů in it quite often. The prominent Czech orchestra will perform in its 122nd season four symphonies by Martinů – Symphony No. 2, H 295, Symphony No. 3, H 299, Symphony No. 5, H 310 and Symphony No. 6 (Fantaisies Symphoniques), H 343 – and two short orchestral pieces Estampes, H 369 and symphonic prelude The Rock, H 363. All of these works will be conducted by Czech Philharmonic’s Chief Conductor Jiří Bělohlávek who is closely connected with his music. Another reason for so many  concerts featuring Martinů is a long-term contract with Supraphon for recording his complete set of symphonies which is planned to be finished in 2018.
