New issue of Martinů Revue about newly found correspondence and photos

First issue of Martinů Revue in 2022 documents the relationship between Bohuslav Martinů and the diplomat Vladimír Vaněk. Their newly available correspondence and photos of the composer from Vaněk’s archive shed a new light at the late Italian period of Martinů’s life. The eminent Czech diplomat and the composer met already as young men in Paris where they even shared an apartment. They met again at the end of their lives in Rome. Around fifty newly discovered photos of the working composer were shot there. The new issue of the magazine reflects their relationship in the article by Martin Ledvinka. It contains a text from the Vaněk himself, “I went to Vieux-Moulin for a penknife”, in which he remembers meeting with Charlotte after the composer’s death.

The issue contains reviews of the last year’s Bohuslav Martinů Days and of the production of Greek Passion in Brno. Text by Monika Holá reveals the spring and Easter inspiration in the composer’s oeuvre. Natálie Krátká presents newly discovered sources in the Martinů scholarship.
