When a new Chief Conductor opens a new season, the event can only be festive and memorable. And this one, with a programme that perfectly matches the personality of Pietari Inkinen, is both classic and modern at the same time. Symbolically, the concert’s programme consists of Finnish and Czech music. There is a unifying American thread as well: Martinů’s First Violin Concerto remained forgotten until 1968, when its manuscript was found in Washington. The Chicago Symphony Orchestra, under Georg Solti, performed its world premiere.
