Wavering between grotesque comedy and bitter irony, The Three Wishes looks beyond common values for what makes life rich. Written in Paris in 1928 - 1929 and premiered in Brno in 1971, the work has only had a few performances in Germany - despite extremely lively and colorful music that often takes up elements from jazz and dance music. Director Rahel Thiel moves Martinů's film opera from the studios into the world of the theater. However, she doesn't forego the use of film - she focuses it on the essentials: a place where dreams and reality touch.
