Martinů Walks Through Prague in 2026

On Wednesday, 8 April 2026, the travelling exhibition Martinů Walks Through Prague was officially opened. The vernissage, held in the chamber hall of the Prague Conservatoire, drew a large audience including students, teachers, and many other visitors.

The evening was introduced by the directors of both institutions, Ivo Kahánek and Aleš Březina. A highlight of the programme was the talk by Libor Kvasnička, head of the conservatoire’s library, who reminded the audience with wit and perspective just how winding Bohuslav Martinů’s student years had been. The musical part of the evening belonged to the conservatoire’s students, who performed chamber works by Bohuslav Martinů and were rewarded with well‑deserved applause. In addition to several exhibition panels, visitors could also view rare archival materials, including the autograph of the String Quartet No. 1 and the composer’s birth certificate.

Concert programme at the exhibition opening:

  • Bohuslav Martinů: Sonatina for Trumpet and Piano, H 357 Jan Suchan (trumpet), Linda Juránková (piano)
  • Bohuslav Martinů: Variations on a Theme by Rossini, H 290 Tobiáš Balkovský (cello), Silvie Ježková (piano)
  • Bohuslav Martinů: Nový Špalíček, H 288 Klára Muknšnáblová, Matouš Klíma (voice), Augustin Kužela (piano)

The exhibition Martinů Walks Through Prague is on view in the foyer of the Prague Conservatoire Chamber Hall until 25 June 2026.
