The book Bohuslav Martinů won the 2026 Golden Ribbon competition, taking home the top prize in the non-fiction category for children and young adults.
The illustrated book by Veronika Bílková was published in 2025 by Verzone. The publication is the third volume in a series dedicated to the lives of famous composers, following successful titles on Beethoven and Smetana.
The book combines biographical text with dozens of oil paintings and acrylic illustrations, which also stand on their own as works of art. The book traces the key stages of Martinů’s life from his childhood in the Polička bell tower through interwar Paris to his exile in America and places them in the context of events in the first half of the 20th century.
