The New York Repertory Orchestra presents an exceptional evening featuring the American premiere of Bohuslav Martinů’s Magic Nights, three songs for soprano and orchestra. Magic Nights stands, together with the cycle Nipponari, among the most significant vocal works of Martinů’s early period, during which he explored oriental themes. These two cycles are also the only vocal works with orchestral accompaniment in Martinů’s entire song output and represent the only settings of Eastern poetry that he completed.
