Granada Hosts International Symposium on Twentieth-Century Composers Archives

On 22–23 October 2026, the international symposium Twentieth-Century Composers’ Archives was held at the Palace of Charles V in the Alhambra complex in Granada. Organized by the Manuel de Falla Archive Foundation as part of the celebrations marking the 150th anniversary of the composer’s birth and the 80th anniversary of his death. The symposium focused on the preservation, research, digitization, and accessibility of composers’ archives and estates from the twentieth century.
The event brought together experts from leading European music archives, libraries, and research institutions. Among the speakers were Manuel Cornejo (Les Amis de Maurice Ravel, Paris), Silvia Sequeira of the National Library of Portugal, Valeria Luti from the Archivio Storico Ricordi in Milan, László Vikárius of the Budapest Bartók Archives, and Christine Favre of the Paul Sacher Foundation in Basel.

The Bohuslav Martinů Institute was represented by its Director, Aleš Březina, who spoke in the session devoted to internationally renowned music archives. His presentation, Bohuslav Martinů as the Culmination of the “Big Four” Czech Classics, introduced the Institute’s activities and long-term projects dedicated to the documentation, research, and dissemination of Martinů’s legacy, while also highlighting the composer’s significance within the broader context of Czech musical culture.

The participation of the Bohuslav Martinů Institute in this prestigious event reaffirmed its position among Europe’s leading institutions committed to preserving and making accessible the musical heritage of the twentieth century.
