Harry Halbreich celebrates his 85th birthday!
Musicologist and scholar Harry Halbreich, well-known to everyone who has ever taken an interest in Bohuslav Martinů's music, celebrates his 85th birthday on 9 February 2016.
Halbreich studied with Arthur Honegger and Olivier Messiaen at the Conservatoire de Paris and is renowned for a number of books and studies on contemporary music, including monograph works on Olivier Messiaen, Claude Debussy, Arthur Honegger and Bohuslav Martinů. He has prepared musical catalogues of the works of the last two mentioned composers, thus their works are sometimes referred to by their Halbreich numbers.
The first edition of the Martinů catalogue was published in 1968 with a new version created in cooperation with the Bohuslav Martinů Institute in 2007. It featured an updated biography of the composer and a chapter about Martinů’s artistic personality.
Happy birthday Harry Halbreich!
