The Bohuslav Martinů Foundation Competition 2018
On 25 November at 7.30 pm, the Academy of Music in Prague will host a concert of laureates of the Bohuslav Martinů Foundation Competition; this year will see students from Czech and Slovak music academies vie in the categories of violin and chamber ensembles with piano. The contest has been helping talented young musicians jump-start their career since 1996, and successful laureates of previous years include Roman Patočka, Václav Petr, Tomáš Jamník, Olga Šroubková or Anna Paulová.
„The Bohuslav Martinů Foundation Competition presents, in cyclical succession, superb musicians with an emphasis on the works of Bohuslav Martinů. Each year our music-loving public is introduced to rising musicians who have launched their career through our contest and soon become prominent figures of our music scene,“ says main guarantor of the Bohuslav Martinů Foundation Competition and director of the Bohuslav Martinů Foundation Prof. Jiří Hlaváč.
Guarantors of each category are traditionally experienced and significant performers. Guarantor of the category of violin is a violin virtuoso and Professor of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague Ivan Štraus, in the category of chamber ensembles with piano is the artistic guarantor one of the most renowned Czech piano players Prof. Ivan Klánský.
The winners of last year’s competition, the clarinettist Anna Paulová and the soprano Zdislava Bočková will present their interpretational skills at Martinů Hall on 5 December together with Marta Vašková and the Wihan Quartet.
