Exhibition of Magdalena Kožené dresses

18 May 2023 – 17 September 2023
The Museum of Decorative Arts, Prague, CZ

It is possible to visit the exhibition "Daniela Flejšarová – Magdalena Kožená. A concert for two senses" until September 17th, which also includes a dress for Three Fragments from the Opera Juliette from 2008.

At the end of last year the mezzo-soprano Magdalena Kožená made a generous offer to the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague. After consulting with the fashion designer Daniela Flejšarová, who has dressed her for the world’s concert stages for almost thirty years now, she decided to donate some of these dresses to the museum’s textile collections. For the museum this was an unexpected opportunity to significantly extend its existing collections of historical and contemporary fashion.

It is not often that two creative individuals from different fields can work together for many years in a harmonious and mutually beneficial collaboration. They are united in seeking a flawless artistic and aesthetic effect: an extraordinary voice and an extraordinary dress, or quite simply a concert for two senses. Those who love Magdalena Kožená’s performances have come to expect her striking visual presentation. These are not just stage costumes but remarkable dresses that sensitively reflect the music being performed while underlining the singer’s personality.

The exhibition that accompanies this gift features fourteen models, five of which will enrich the museum's collections, as well as rare loans. On display, for example, is a wedding dress from 2008 in which Magdalena Kožená got married at the castle in Náměšt nad Oslavou and also sang Julietta by Bohuslav Martinů at the Rudolfinum. All models are accompanied by shared memories of the designer and the singer, the exhibition features excerpts from Mozart's compositions performed and selected by Magdalena Kožená.
