The Epic of Gilgamesh in Prague

The Epic of Gilgamesh, H 351 will appear in three upcoming evenings in Prague’s Rudolfinum. Last year first fully-scenic production had a premiere in Janáček opera NtB and first volume of the Bohuslav Martinů Complete Edition published by Bärenreiter with the oratorio was awarded the German Music Edition Prize for "Best Edition" of 2015.

“It has influenced our culture and Bible of course. Bohuslav Martinů’s Gilgamesh is one of his most interesting pieces and despite its tonal character most remarkable oratorios of the 20th century,” says David Mareček, Czech Philharmonic Director.

Czech Philharmonic will perform this piece without its Chief Conductor Jiří Bělohlávek, Manfred Honeck will conduct instead of him. The audience will have a chance to hear also Prague Philharmonic Choir narrator Simon Callow and soloists Jan Martiník, Lucy Crowe, Andrew Staples and Derek Welton. This concert will be recorded for Supraphon.
