Dr Hideo Sekine sadly passed away on 18 January
Former president of the Japanese Bohuslav Martinů Society and longtime member of the International Martinů Circle Dr Hideo Sekine sadly passed away on 18 January in Tokyo. Hideo Sekine was otorhinolaryngologist and Czech culture enthusiast. He has translated to Japan a book by Jaroslav Seifert (All the Beauty in the World), librettos of operas by Leoš Janáček and Bohuslav Martinů (The Greek Passion, The Plays of Mary) or recently released publication by Lucie Berná about Bohuslav Martinů. In 2009, thanks to his promotion of the Czech culture he received a medal Artis Bohemiae Amicis from Czech Minister of Culture and in 1998 he was awarded with a Bohuslav Martinu Foundation Medal.
