Martinů's Duos for violin and cello on new CD by Jamník and Špaček

Paths – crossing and diverging, those we choose ourselves and those that are predestined and inevitable: through this prism the violinist Josef Špaček and the cellist Tomáš Jamník view the music by Leoš Janáček, Gideon Klein, Bohuslav Martinů and Ervín Schulhoff written within a mere 35 years of the 20th century. Supraphon will release their album Paths on 22 April 2022 on CD and in digital formats within international distribution.

Songs on One Page recorded in orchestral version by Jiří Teml

Sopranist Karolína Janů recorded Songs on One Page, H 294 by Bohuslav Martinů in orchestral version created by Jiří Teml. The soloist sings with Pilsen Philharmonic under the baton of Chuhei Iwasaki. The new CD was released by German publishing house Ars Produktion. The composer Jiří Teml is former member of Supervisiory board of Bohuslav Martinů Foundation. The orchestral arrange of Songs was written in 1997, Teml instrumented also Antonín Dvořák’s Gypsy Melodies, op. 55, that is on the new CD too.

Reviews: Symphony No. 1 in New York

Jakub Hrůša and New York Philharmonic performed the Symphony No. 1, H 289 by Bohuslav Martinů. For three evenings in February 10-12, 2022, it was to be heard with pieces by Zoltán Kodály and Franz Liszt in Alice Tully Hall. The American media are referring positively about the concert and the first performance of the symphony by New York Philharmonic.

The foundation charged with administering the estate of the composer Bohuslav Martinů has a new Director from the start of this year – doc. Irvin Venyš. The post was previously held by Prof. Jiří Hlaváč, who symbolically handed over his office at the last concert of the Bohuslav Martinů Days.

Martinů's Puppets in audiovisual project of Baderna Moderna ansamble

The project From the twins Harlequin and Colombine to echoes in Pierrot marks the debut of Baderna Moderna, a music group formed by Brazilian classical musicians with focus on contemporary music. This first work, presented in the format of music plus narration, is based on Puppets, music by Bohuslav Martinů. Inspired by this music, Brazilian journalist Claudia Piccazio created a story, written especially for this project.

The third Martinů Revue of 2021 is out

The last issue of Martinů Revue in 2021 deals with the new movie My Life with Bohuslav Martinů that was premiered during the preparations of the magazine. In an interview, the director Jakub Sommer explains his intention of bringing the music and life of the composer closer to broader and younger audience. The issue also informs about the last volume of Bohuslav Martinů Complete Edition that is the opera Ariane, H 370. The article by Monika Holá is concerned with the winter holidays of the Martinů couple in Polička and the destiny of photos that were photographed there. Concert for the 80th Anniversary of Bohuslav Martinů in New York

On Tuesday, 30th of November, concert commemorating the 80th anniversary of Martinů’s arrival to the USA took place. Pieces written by the composer during his stay in New York was rehearsed by students of Mannes School of Music, where was Martinů pedagogically active for eight years. Recording of the concert is available to listeners across the globe.

Czech children play Martinů for the Czech Centrer New York

Children from the Arts Elementary School Kladno recorded compositions on the occasion of Year of Martinů under the guidance of Ing. Michaela Bernášková, the principal of the school. Hynek Kubát Arts Elementary School (ZUŠ) in Kladno has been offering the home of arts for children in Kladno for more than 70 years. In 2022, school will commemorate it's 75th anniversary. In recent years, the shool has been involved in multimedia production education in cooperation with the Fabrika studio. The videos prepared for the 180th anniversary of A. Dvořák's birthday and for the 130th anniversary of B. Martinů's birthday are also a result of this cooperation.
