Jakub Hrůša for the first time with Berliner Philharmoniker
Another great success for Czech conductor Jakub Hrůša was his debut with Berliner Philharmoniker on Thursday, October 11. He chose purely Czech programme for his first performance with the renowned orchestra: Dvořák's Golden Spinning Wheel, Janáček's Taras Bulba and Concerto for Violin and Orchestra No. 1 by Bohuslav Martinů, in which soloist Frank Peter Zimmermann took part. Another performance is scheduled for October 12 and 13, the Saturday concert will be live-streamed within the Digital Concert Hall.→ More

On Friday, October 12, clarinetist, pedagogue and director of the Bohuslav Martinů Foundation professor Jiří Hlaváč, celebrated his 70th birthday. Violist prof. Lubomír Malý, who recently celebrated his 80th birthday, was given the Bohuslav Martinů Foundation Medal during the Bohuslav Martinů Days Festival 2018 press conference. The Bohuslav Martinů Medal is handed over to prominent figures who have promoted Martinů's music and legacy. Among those who are awarded are, for example, Rudolf Firkušný, Zuzana Růžičková, Jiří Bělohlávek or Sir Charles Mackerras.→ More
11 superb concerts in Prague for this year's the Bohuslav Martinů Days
The Bohuslav Martinů Days, running from 18 November to 19 December this year, will offer eleven performances of some of the most prominent artists of the Czech and international music scenes. The festival will welcome Petr Nouzovský and the Pilsen Philharmonic, Ivo Kahánek, Frank Peter Zimmermann and the Czech Philharmonic under the direction of Jakub Hrůša, the Wihan Quartet, Anna Paulová, and the Guarneri Trio, among others. Martinů’s music will also be celebrated by subscription concerts of the Czech Chamber Music Society, the Prague Radio Orchestra, and the Prague Castle Guard Band.→ More

Another volume from the Bohuslav Martinů Complete Edition is released by Bärenreiter. The sixth volume which was prepared by the Bohuslav Martinů Institute deals with Martinů’s "Quadruple Concertos" (Concerto for String Quartet and Orchestra and Sinfonia concertante). This new volume will be presented at the benefit concert for the Bohuslav Martinů Institute on November 19, where cembalist Mahan Esfahani will perform works by Bach, Martinů and Kalabis.→ More
Max Kellerhals would turn 100 today
Today, a great lover of music, a Swiss priest and a close friend of Bohuslav Martinů Max Kellerhals (24. 9. 1918 - 24. 8. 2013) would be 100 years old. He was a priest in municipalities in the canton of Basel–Landschaft, near Liestal, the town in which Bohuslav Martinů died. Max Kellerhals accompanied Bohuslav Martinů in the final days of his life and participated in organising his funeral in Switzerland and, twenty years later, the transportation of the composer’s remains to Czechoslovakia.→ More

Juliette for the first time in the USA
In 2019, the US premiere of Bohuslav Martinů’s opera Juliette (The Key to Dreams), H 253 will take place in Carnegie Hall, New York City. Dr Jiří Pilka has passed away
On July 7, musicologist, music popularizer, radio and television concert moderator and publicist Jiří Pilka has passed away in the age of 88. He was a longtime member of the B ohuslav Martinů Foundation Supervisory Board and in 2012 was awarded a Bohuslav Martinů Foundation Medal thanks to his promotion of Martinů’s work.→ More
Gennady Rozhdestvensky has passed away at the age of 87
One of the world's most famous conductors Gennady Rozhdestvensky passed away on Saturday, June 16th. Rozhdestvensky, who was also a composer and pianist, was one of the founding members of the Bohuslav Martinů Society, International Martinů Circle, and for his lifetime promotion of Martinů 's work was awarded the Bohuslav Martinů Foundation Medal in 2003.→ More

Supraphon has released a huge collection of recordings by Jiří Bělohlávek, which were created between 1971 and 2016. It is a collection of pivotal and unknown recordings as well, which were recorded by the Brno Philharmonic, the Czech Philharmonic, the Prague Philharmonia, or the Prague Symphony Orchestra. “The selection of Jiří Bělohlávek’s recordings was made less than a year after his passing away. Symphony No. 4 in the Prague Spring Festival
On June 1, 2018, American conductor David Robertson and Czech Philharmonic will perform Martinů during the Prague Spring Festival. The music director of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra and the chief conductor of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra will conduct in Municipal House Bartók’s Bluebeard's Castle and the famous Symphony No. 4, H 305 by Bohuslav Martinů. „This will be my first time conducting the 4thSymphony, but the resonance of playing it in the Prague Spring is wonderful,“ says David Robertson.→ More
