The Greek Passion for the first time in Sweden
The Wermland Opera in Karlstad, Sweden, presents a new production of Bohuslav Martinů's Greek Passion, H 372 I. This opera will be seen in its first version, reconstructed by the director of the Bohuslav Martinů Institute Aleš Březina in 1999 for the festival in Bregenz. It had its Swedish premiere on September 14 (in English with Swedish surtitles), another 9 performances will take plance in Karlstad during September and October.→ More

On Saturday, August 26, conductor Jakub Hrůša debuted at the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall, where he presented a program related to the theme of the Bohemian Reformation. In featured compositions of all Czech greats: Smetana, Dvořák, Suk and Janáček. One of the highlights of the evening was the Field Mass, H 279, a cantata of Bohuslav Martinů composed as a reaction to the beginning of the Second World War. Ariane in Konstanz
The courtyard of the Renaissance Town Hall in Konstanz changes annualy in August into the chamber stage of the musical theater. The artistic director of this chamber opera, Peter Bauer, chose the theme of Greek mythology for this year's productions: the story of Ariadne, daughter of Cretan king Minos. In collaboration with the Municipal Theater in Konstanz, it‘ll present two operas of composers from the same generation: one-act operas Ariane, H 370 by Bohuslav Martinů and L'Abandon d'Ariane by Darius Milhaud.→ More

Exhibition: Zdeněk Zouhar. Composer, Musicologist, Librarian
Moravian Library in Brno prepared exhibition about its former worker, prof. PhDr. Zdeněk Zouhar (1927-2011), who would turn 90 this year. His anniversary will be reminded at the exhibition opening: Zdeněk Zouhar. Composer, Musicologist, Librarian on June 8, 2017. Zouhar was heavily linked with Bohuslav Martinů, in January 1956 he conducted the world premiere of the Opening of the Wells in Polička and later he co-founded the Bohuslav Martinů Society. A lecture called Zdeněk Zouhar. Music composer and promoter of the work of Bohuslav Martinů (21 June at 6 pm) will take place as part of the accompanying program. It will be lectured by Zouhar’s son, music composer and musicologist prof. Vít Zouhar who is the editor of the latest volume of the Bohuslav Martinů Complete Edition (four cantatas on texts of Miloslav Bureš).→ More
